Dear Fellow Californians, I worked for nearly 20 years as a public policy expert in Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles. Currently, I oversee, as Executive Director, numerous social programs at a nonprofit agency in the Bay Area. But I am announcing my decision to run for Governor of the State of California. I have decided to run for two important reasons:
I am asking the people of California to vote for me because I represent a real choice. Californians should not have to choose between candidates who say they are from different parties and believe in different principles but behave as though there is really one political party with two factions. The electorate should not have to select from the lesser of two evils when they walk into a voting booth. I am not afraid to fight for what I believe is important, no matter how difficult the obstacles. I am a Democrat who has no further tolerance for Democrats who are Republican “wannabes.” Most importantly, I am an ordinary Californian who understands the needs, the concerns and the challenges of ordinary Californians. The issues that matter to me are largely the issues that matter to many others who are not multimillionaires, as are Arnold Schwarzenegger, Phil Angelides and Steve Westly, all gubernatorial candidates. So I am asking Californians to join me by refusing to vote for candidates who favor policies that do not serve the well-being of ordinary Californians, the majority of people in this State. I am asking Californians to stop voting against their self-interest. I
am asking the people of California to vote for me in the June 6th Primary
Election. With the people’s support and votes on June 6th I will be
well on my way to becoming the next Governor of the State of California—as
well as the first black woman Governor of this State. Barbara
