Since research has shown that middle class black men and women, as well as Jewish women, are routinely kicked off California juries where low-income black or Latino/Latina defendants face the death penalty, the undeniable truth is that race and class bias have negatively influenced our criminal justice system. This is not constitutional, this is not ethical, and this is not a prosecutorial practice that supports fair treatment and genuine justice for all Californians. As Governor, I would support legislation to stop such intolerable courtroom tactics.
