Moratorium
on the Death Penalty

The current moratorium on the death penalty—caused by the refusal of doctors to participate in state-sponsored execution of human beings—should be made permanent. California should not be in the business of the premeditated killing—by slow torture—of its citizens. Some prisoners are innocent of the crimes for which they have been convicted. Virtually all of them are low-income citizens who could not afford quality lawyers. Only the United States, of all industrialized nations, persists in having a death penalty. |
